How to Play Hueristic
Hueristic is a free daily code-breaking logic puzzle. A secret code of four colored pegs is hidden each day, and you have eight guesses to work it out. It is pure deduction — no luck, no trivia — and a fresh code appears every day.
The rules
Pick colors to fill a row of four, then submit it as a guess. The board scores your guess with two numbers:
- Exact — a peg that is the right color and in the right position.
- Present — a peg whose color is in the code but sits in the wrong position.
The scores tell you how many, never which. Reading several rows together is how you narrow the possibilities down to the one code that fits every clue.
A worked example
Suppose your guess scores two Exact and one Present. That means two of your pegs are perfectly placed, one more is a correct color in the wrong spot, and the fourth color is not in the code at all. Change one peg on your next guess and watch how the counts move — each shift tells you whether that color or position belongs.
Strategy tips
- Open with a guess that uses four different colors to learn which colors are in play before you worry about positions.
- Change one thing at a time when you can, so each new score is easy to attribute.
- Track colors you have ruled out — a color that scores zero never returns.
- Remember positions matter: the same color set can score differently depending on placement.
